Lux Helsinki brings well-being to the built environment

Granlund is a Lux Helsinki partner.

Granlund will be one of the partners of the Lux Helsinki event in January 2017. The festival of light is one of the city’s most impressive efforts at the turn of the year when Finland will celebrate the centenary of its independence.

”Lux Helsinki is an amazing event that brings light to our capital city at the darkest time of year. At Granlund, we aim to create well-being in the built environment, and Lux supports this exact idea,” says Granlund Oy’s CEO, Pekka Metsi, of the background to the partnership.

”Lux Helsinki has become one of Finland’s largest public events for the whole family. This year, we have strengthened our collaboration with partners, enabling the festival to develop further,” says Granlund’s Senior Consultant in Presentation Technology, Ilkka Paloniemi, who is working as Lux Helsinki’s festival director alongside Matti Jykylä from Sun Effects.

As an event partner, Granlund will bring Light Pipes, an artistic work designed by Risanpää & Laine, to Senate Square in Helsinki. The work is all about interaction – visitors can adjust the brightness of the lights in the work. Light Pipes poses the question of how individuals and communities can make a difference to large entities. Can we make a difference together to change the conditions in which we live?

”Ridanpää & Laine’s work raises the topic of the individual’s ability to make an impact as well as user-orientation – things that we also aim to highlight in our own work to improve the energy-efficiency of buildings,” says Metsi.

The City of Helsinki is welcoming Lux Helsinki to its streets for the ninth time. In 2017, it will be held from 5 January to 9 January. Last year, the event attracted almost half a million participants. The theme of Finland’s centenary will take Lux Helsinki into the district of Kruununhaka, where works will illuminate the Lutheran Cathedral, City Hall, the Presidential Palace and several parts of the University of Helsinki. In addition to the traditional route around the city, this year Lux Helsinki will also offer a ten-day Lux In exhibition of light-related art at Kaapelitehdas, a former cable factory.

Lux Helsinki’s main partner is Stora Enso. Other partners include IKEA Finland, Marimekko, Bright, Shader and Sun Effects. Event partners include Granlund, MTK, Plan International Finland, City, Basso, Linnanmäki and Tori Quarters. Lux Helsinki is suitable for the whole family and entrance is free of charge.
